A Message from the Chair, Con琀椀nuing a Tradi琀椀on
of Excellence
When I first walked into the MCW Radia琀椀on Oncology
department, as a medical student interviewing for residency, it
was clear to me that this department was special. It has a
deep history of making profound contribu琀椀ons to the
specialty of Radia琀椀on Oncology in a
measured, though琀昀ul, and pa琀椀ent centric approach.
When I joined here as a faculty member in 2014, there were
many things that both surprised and impressed me about the
department. First, and most striking, was its humility. While
the department was an interna琀椀onal leader in Radia琀椀on
Oncology, it led with a level of understated modesty that I
always found to be incredibly inspiring. The second was a
measured and pragma琀椀c approach to technology adop琀椀on
and introduc琀椀on. “New and flashy” was not always the focus
of department leadership, instead evidence based, and
pa琀椀ent centric decisions were the unifying focal points. When evidence did not exist, MCW Radia琀椀on Oncology
faculty strived to create it. I am both humbled and honored to be tasked with leading such an incredible place,
filled with such amazing people.
MCW Radia琀椀on Oncology has consistently focused on improving pa琀椀ent outcomes and experiences. As I
assumed the role of chair, my overarching goal was to maintain the incredible history of
innova琀椀on while ensuring our current and future faculty can thrive in Radia琀椀on Oncology clinical care delivery
and innova琀椀on. Pa琀椀ent centric, precision radia琀椀on therapy, delivered, is our focus.
This annual report intends to summarize a few of the incredible accomplishments of our faculty and other
ac琀椀vi琀椀es in our department over the past year. This publica琀椀on will serve as a repository of our achievements
and will become an annual celebra琀椀on of the work that we do. Assembling this report and cataloging our
achievements has been incredible. I would like to especially thank Heather Holsworth and Jodi Franklin, for
their help in crea琀椀ng this annual report. I hope everyone enjoys this first annual report from our iconic
department!
