The Kerns Lab is located in the new Center for Cancer Discovery (CCD), which opened in August 2025. The CCD
laboratories feature an open-concept design and are organized into neighborhoods to enhance transdisciplinary
collabora琀椀ons. The Kerns lab is located on the 4th floor in the Precision Oncology neighborhood and is comprised of
combined wet and dry laboratory space to accommodate biospecimen processing and computa琀椀onal research.
Dedicated equipment includes a class II biosafety cabinet, clinical centrifuge, and -80°C freezer used for processing and
storage of human blood, saliva, and urine samples collected from Dr. Kerns’s ongoing clinical biomarker study of normal
琀椀ssue effects of pelvic radia琀椀on. Dry research space includes private offices for Dr. Kerns and Ms. Sanchita Giri, Clinical
Research Coordinator II, as well as four cubicle workspaces for trainees in the lab. Dr. Kerns works in close collabora琀椀on
with faculty and trainees in the Cancer Center Biosta琀椀s琀椀cs shared resource, and Geospa琀椀al, Epidemiology & Outcomes
shared resource, both of which are located on the 1st floor of the CCD.
