The MCW Department of Radia琀椀on Oncology con琀椀nued to sustain and expand its
global partnerships in 2025. In January 2025, MCW formalized a longstanding
rela琀椀onship with the Interna琀椀onal Cancer Expert Corps (ICEC) by signing a
Memorandum of Understanding. ICEC is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit focused on
expanding access to cancer care in LMICs through building mentorship networks and
developing new cancer treatment paradigms. A focus of the MCW-ICEC partnership will
be suppor琀椀ng the Oncology Ins琀椀tute in Chisinau, Moldova. We have con琀椀nued our
educa琀椀onal collabora琀椀on with Chris琀椀an Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India
with our ongoing virtual grand rounds series and are looking toward bidirec琀椀onal
learner
and faculty educa琀椀onal exchanges in 2026. The department con琀椀nues to open its doors
to the world through the Interna琀椀onal Scholars in Radia琀椀on Oncology program. This
formal, non-degree program facilitates clinical observerships and research experiences for interna琀椀onal learners and
faculty members. Since 2017, we have hosted 12 Interna琀椀onal Scholars from 6 different countries. In 2025, under the
mentorship of Dr. Sarah Kerns, Harkeran Jandu from the University of Leicester, UK, became our first Interna琀椀onal
Scholar in Radiobiology. In the fall of 2025, a new and exci琀椀ng rela琀椀onship developed between our department and the
Na琀椀onal Cancer Ins琀椀tute in Kyiv, Ukraine. Tifany Frazer, Director of the MCW Office of Global Health, connected our
department with Dr. Katyrena Minko Head of the Strategic
Communica琀椀on and Interna琀椀onal Coopera琀椀on Department
at the Na琀椀onal Cancer Ins琀椀tute in Kyiv and a US State
Department Professional Fellow. Through the leadership
of our Residency Program and Associate Program Directors,
Dr. Adam Currey and Dr. Chris琀椀na Small, and our chief
resident, Dr. Yulia Romalis, we have met with Dr. Minko and
her team to iden琀椀fy ways to support our Ukrainian
colleagues’ educa琀椀onal programs. Star琀椀ng in December
2025, radia琀椀on oncologists and medical physicists
from the Na琀椀onal Cancer Ins琀椀tute of Ukraine have been
joining resident didac琀椀c conferences. Dr. Eenas Omari and
Dr. Doug Prah serve as our global physics champions. Dr.
Omari is an ac琀椀ve member of the AAPM Interna琀椀onal
Council Associates Mentorship Program and the ASTRO
Interna琀椀onal Commi琀琀ee, and Dr. Prah collaborates closely
with Rayos Contra Cancer and Centro Estatal de Cancerlogia in Xalapa, Mexico. Within the Office of Global Health, I am
entering my tenth year of co-facilita琀椀ng pre-departure training for MCW medical students, residents, and fellows who
engage in short term elec琀椀ves in global health. Our ongoing global radia琀椀on oncology partnerships help us to be琀琀er
serve the needs of diverse cancer pa琀椀ents in our Southeastern Wisconsin community and beyond.
